Pueblito Paisa is a captivating recreation of a typical Antioquian village from the turn of the 20th century. Inaugurated in 1978, the village was built to celebrate Medellín's 350th anniversary, showcasing the region's rural heritage and traditions. The village is located on top of Cerro Nutibara, which the city purchased in 1927 to preserve as a recreational space. As you enter Pueblito Paisa, you're transported to a bygone era with its cobblestone streets, whitewashed buildings, and a central plaza complete with a traditional stone fountain. The village features a replica church, a mayor's office, a one-room schoolhouse, a barber shop, and traditional houses, all meticulously crafted to reflect the architecture and ambiance of the time. Many of the building materials were salvaged from the town of El Peñol when it was flooded in the 1970s to create a reservoir. Visitors can explore the village's charming streets, visit the church (Capilla Nuestra Señora De La Candelaria), and browse the artisan shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. The Museo de Ciudad, located near the main square, showcases the history of Medellín from its indigenous roots to the present day. Pueblito Paisa also offers several restaurants where you can savor typical Colombian dishes like bandeja paisa. Cerro Nutibara itself is a verdant oasis, home to 101 species of flora and 56 species of fauna. The hill offers walking trails, ecological paths, and sculptures, including a notable sculpture of Cacique Nutibara, representing the chief accompanied by a warrior and a puma. The views from the top of the hill are simply breathtaking, providing a 360-degree panorama of Medellín and the surrounding mountains.
