Discover more about Isak Heartstone

Nestled in the forests of Breckenridge, Colorado, Isak Heartstone is a whimsical and captivating sculpture created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Constructed from recycled wood, this 15-foot-tall troll embodies the spirit of environmental stewardship and artistic imagination. Originally built for the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts in 2018, Isak quickly became a beloved local icon. Isak's popularity led to some challenges, including overcrowding in his initial location. After a brief removal, he was rebuilt in 2019 on the Trollstigen Trail, near the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, where he continues to enchant visitors. The short, easy hike to reach Isak makes him accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Dambo's trolls carry a message of sustainability, showing how discarded materials can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful. Isak Heartstone serves as a reminder of the importance of recycling and our connection to nature. A group of girls gifted Isak his name by bringing Dambo a heart-shaped stone to include in the sculpture.
