Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from the Cahuita National Park entrance. Head south on Route 36 (also known as the Costanera Sur). Continue along this road for about 9 kilometers (approximately 15 minutes). You will pass through the town of Cahuita. Look for signs directing you to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Once you reach the intersection with Route 256, turn left. Continue on Route 256 for about 2 kilometers until you reach Playa Puerto Viejo, which will be on your right. There's parking available near the beach.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Playa Puerto Viejo by public transportation, you will need to take a bus from Cahuita. Head to the Cahuita bus station located on the main road (Route 36). Buses to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca leave frequently, approximately every 30 minutes. The fare is around 1,000 to 1,500 colones (about $2 to $3 USD). The bus ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the bus stop in Puerto Viejo, walk toward the coast, and you will soon find Playa Puerto Viejo. It’s a short walk of about 10 minutes.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer a more direct and comfortable option, you can take a taxi from Cahuita to Playa Puerto Viejo. You can arrange a taxi at your accommodation or find one near the Cahuita National Park entrance.
