Discover more about Manor Savonet Museum

The Savonet Museum, nestled within the Christoffel National Park, provides an immersive experience into Curaçao's multifaceted past. Situated in a 19th-century plantation house (Landhuis Savonet), the museum chronicles the story of the Savonet Plantation and the surrounding region, beginning with the Arawak Indians, the island's first inhabitants, and continuing through the periods of slavery, emancipation, and Curaçao's independence in 2010. The museum's primary focus is on the lives of the enslaved people and later workers of the Savonet Plantation, as well as the lives of the owners and the interactions between these two groups. Through historical artifacts, modern audio-visual presentations, and restored antiques, visitors gain insight into the daily lives, customs, and traditions of those who lived and worked on the plantation. The museum also sheds light on the blending of cultures and religions, such as Santeria, which combines Catholicism with West African faiths. In addition to its historical exhibits, the Savonet Museum features a permanent exposition called "Nos Naturalesa" (Our Nature), which showcases the island's local flora and fauna. Visitors can learn about sea turtles, reptiles, native birds, and plants, and even see a skeleton of the Curaçao white-tailed deer, a species unique to the island. The museum's location within Christoffel National Park allows visitors to combine their historical exploration with an appreciation of the island's natural beauty.
