Discover more about Boka Pistol

Boka Pistol is the star attraction of Shete Boka National Park, a protected area encompassing 10 kilometers of Curaçao's northern coastline. The park's name, meaning 'seven inlets' in Papiamentu, hints at the dramatic meeting of land and sea that defines this landscape. Here, the relentless force of the Caribbean Sea crashes against the island's volcanic cliffs, carving out coves and creating natural wonders like Boka Pistol. At Boka Pistol, waves are forced through a narrow channel in the rocks, compressing the water's energy until it erupts in a geyser-like explosion. The resulting 'pistol shot' of water can reach impressive heights, accompanied by a booming sound that reverberates through the air. Viewing platforms offer a safe vantage point to witness this awe-inspiring spectacle, providing panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the turquoise waters beyond. The surrounding landscape is characterized by arid terrain, with low shrubs, cacti, and windswept trees clinging to the rocky cliffs. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including iguanas, lizards, and various bird species adapted to this harsh environment. From May to December, sea turtles come ashore to nest on the park's beaches, adding another layer of natural significance to this remarkable location. Boka Pistol is easily accessible by car and is a must-see for anyone visiting Curaçao.
