Discover more about Playa Piskadó / Playa Grandi

Playa Piskadó, meaning Fisherman's Beach in Papiamentu, offers a unique and unforgettable experience on Curaçao's western coast. Located near the village of Westpunt, this isn't your typical Caribbean beach with powdery white sand; instead, it's a small, pebbly cove buzzing with the activity of local fishermen. Historically, Playa Grandi was recognized as a weak spot in the island's defenses in the 1770s. Today, its significance lies in its vibrant marine life and the unique relationship between local fishermen and sea turtles. The fishermen clean their daily catch on the pier, discarding scraps into the water, creating a haven for sea turtles. Playa Piskadó is now famous as one of the best spots in Curaçao to encounter sea turtles. The turtles, mostly juvenile green sea turtles, are accustomed to humans and often swim close to snorkelers. You might even spot hawksbill turtles. Remember that turtles are protected by law and should not be touched. As you snorkel in the crystal-clear water, you'll be surrounded by marine life. Schools of colorful fish dart around the coral reefs, and turtles glide beneath the surface. The turtles are often seen near the pier. The beach provides a glimpse into local Curaçao life, and other beautiful beaches like Playa Forti and Grote Knip are a short drive away. You can also visit Shete Boka National Park, known for its rugged coastline.
