The story of Aphrodite Delights began when Sophocles Athanasiou returned to his home village of Geroskipou after years of traveling abroad. Inspired by the loukoumi he had tasted during his travels, he set about creating his own version, using local ingredients and his own unique touch. His creation, Loukoumi Geroskipou, quickly became a local favorite, drawing visitors from across the island and beyond. Today, Aphrodite Delights is run by George Gabriel, Sophocles Athanasiou's great-grandson, who continues to uphold the family's commitment to quality and tradition. The company has moved to a new, purpose-built factory, but the original recipe and the dedication to using only the finest ingredients remain the same. This commitment has earned Aphrodite Delights numerous accolades, including recognition as a Best Cypriot Product and a Best Small-Medium Cypriot Enterprise. Loukoumi Geroskipou itself is a confection with a rich history. The name "Loukoumi Geroskipou" is the first Cypriot name to be registered as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) in the European Union. The production of Loukoumi Geroskipou dates back to the 19th century, specifically to 1895, when Sofocles Athanasiou started production. The initial recipe of Loukoumi Geroskipou with the local know–how has been transferred from generation to generation and is used within the same geographical area until today.
