Adonis Baths Waterfalls: A Mythical Oasis

Adonis Baths Waterfalls, located near Koili village in the Paphos district, is a captivating destination steeped in Greek mythology and natural splendor. According to legend, this idyllic spot was the favorite haunt of Adonis, the god of beauty, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love. It is said that they spent much time here and that many of the citizens of Paphos are descendants of the couple. The water is believed to have youth-preserving and strength-giving properties. The site features two-level waterfalls that cascade into a small lake formed by the Mavrokolympos River. Visitors can swim in the cool, clear waters, jump from the rocks, and swing from ropes like Tarzan. The surrounding area is adorned with statues of Greek gods, including a towering 10-meter statue of Aphrodite. A traditional watermill, built in the 16th century by the monastery of Ayios Neophytos, and a small museum showcasing Cypriot history add to the cultural richness of the site. While the location offers a serene escape, reaching Adonis Baths requires some navigation. Roads can be rough, so a sturdy vehicle or guided tour is recommended. Visitors should bring cash for the entrance fee and be aware that Google Maps may not show the correct route. Follow signs from Tala village or Coral Bay instead.
