The museum is about 35km north of Pafos. It was established by the government to house findings from the ancient city of Marion, which was later renamed Arsinoe in the 3rd century BC. The museum comprises two rooms and an atrium, displaying artifacts in chronological order to depict the historical development of the area from the Neolithic to Medieval periods. Room I showcases objects from the extensive area around Polis, illustrating the area's historical journey. Room II features a rich collection of objects from the area's necropolis, highlighting the location and excavation of these cemeteries. Marion was founded by the legendary King Marieas and prospered as a significant Cypriot city-kingdom, engaging in trade with the East Aegean islands, Attica, and Corinth. In 312 B.C., Ptolemy I conquered Marion, but Ptolemy II Philadelphus later re-established the city and renamed it Arsinoe. Arsinoe continued to thrive through the Roman, early Christian, and early Byzantine periods. Archaeological evidence suggests the city was inhabited even during the Medieval period. Today, Polis Chrysochous stands as a charming town, carrying the legacy of its ancient past.
