Discover more about MUSAN Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa

MUSAN, the Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa, presents a unique fusion of art and ecology beneath the Mediterranean Sea. Located just off Pernera Beach in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, this underwater forest features over 93 sculptures by the renowned artist Jason deCaires Taylor. The sculptures, some shaped like trees and others figurative, are crafted from inert, pH-neutral materials designed to attract a diverse array of marine life. The museum serves as an artificial reef, promoting marine biodiversity in a previously barren sandy area. Divers and snorkelers can explore the installations, observing how marine flora and fauna colonize the sculptures over time. The experience offers an otherworldly encounter, highlighting the connection between humans and nature. Created in 2021, MUSAN is accessible to both divers and snorkelers and lies within a Marine Protected Area. The site aims to enhance awareness of marine conservation and the importance of rewilding our oceans. The Municipality of Ayia Napa played a key role in the museum's creation, with the Department of Fisheries also making a significant contribution.
