3.9

Holešovice Market, located in the Holešovice district of Prague, is a dynamic marketplace with a rich history. Constructed between 1893 and 1895 based on the designs of architect Josef Srdínek, it initially served as the Central Meat Slaughterhouse of the Royal City of Prague. Until 1983, it was Prague's main slaughterhouse before being repurposed into a general market. Today, Holešovice Market, or Pražská tržnice, is a hub of activity where visitors can find fresh fruits and vegetables, explore modern art galleries, attend concerts, enjoy street food, and browse artisan markets. The market is also home to independent shops, offices, and various eateries. The complex's architecture features Art Nouveau and Neo-Renaissance styles, adding to its unique atmosphere. The market is divided into several halls, each offering a different experience. Hall 22 is the largest fresh produce market in Prague, where you can find a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and other food items. Weekends are particularly lively, with craft markets, beer festivals, and art exhibitions adding to the market's appeal. The food truck area offers diverse culinary specialties, while various shops sell everything from home goods to clothing. At the main entrance from Bubenské River Embankment, visitors are greeted by two monumental sculptures of Men with Bulls, symbolizing the market's history as a slaughterhouse. Despite its transformation, the market retains its industrial heritage, offering a unique contrast to Prague's more traditional tourist attractions.
