Obora Hvězda, also known as the Star Game Reserve, is an 84-hectare forest park located in Prague 6, about 6 kilometers west of the city center. This protected natural monument, once a royal hunting ground, offers a peaceful retreat with historical significance and diverse recreational opportunities.Established in the mid-16th century by Ferdinand I, the park's name, meaning "star" in Czech, is inspired by the unique six-pointed star shape of the Letohrádek Hvězda villa. This Renaissance villa, designed by Ferdinand of Tyrol, served as a luxurious retreat for the royals and a hub for cultural and social events. Today, the villa hosts art exhibitions and provides a glimpse into the park's rich history.The park's history dates back to 993 when Duke Boleslaus II donated the forest to the Břevnov Monastery. During the Renaissance, it was transformed into a walled game reserve. The park also holds historical importance as the site of the Battle of White Mountain in 1620, a pivotal event in the Thirty Years' War.Hvězda Park offers a variety of activities and sights, including flat footpaths for walking, cycling, and wheelchair access, as well as forest trails for a peaceful escape into nature.
