Getting there

Walking

If you are near the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), walk towards the Vltava River, following the signs for Charles Bridge (Karlův most). Cross the Charles Bridge, and once you reach the other side, turn left and head along the riverbank towards Mánes Bridge. The walk will take about 15-20 minutes and offer beautiful views along the way. There are no tolls or fees for walking.

Public Transport

From the city center, take Metro Line A (Green Line) from any station like Můstek or Staroměstská towards Nemocnice Motol. Get off at the next stop, Malostranská. From the Malostranská Metro station, exit and walk towards the Vltava River. You will find the bridge within a 10-minute walk. A single metro fare is approximately 30 CZK. Alternatively, take tram numbers 2, 17, or 18 to the Staroměstská tram stop, which is a short walk to the bridge. A single tram fare is also around 30 CZK.

Taxi/Ride-sharing

From the Old Town Square, a taxi or ride-sharing service to Mánes Bridge will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The estimated cost is between 150 CZK to 250 CZK. Be sure to confirm the price with the driver before starting your journey.

Overview

Mánes Bridge gracefully spans the Vltava River in Prague, linking the Aleš Embankment and Rudolfinum to the Lesser Quarter (Malá Strana). Built between 1911 and 1914 and fully completed in 1916, it stands on the site of a former ferry and pedestrian bridge. The bridge is named after the renowned Czech painter Josef Mánes.Designed by Mečislav Petrů and engineers František Mencl and Alois Nový, the concrete structure is supported by four segmental arches. Its architectural style reflects Czech Cubism, featuring sculptures and artistic installations. The bridge provides a vital transportation route for trams, cars, and pedestrians.Walking across Mánes Bridge offers panoramic views of Prague Castle, the Old Town, and the Vltava River. The bridge is adorned with figural friezes depicting scenes from the lives of Vltava swimmers and also features a Walk of Fame honoring Czech composers.
