Øm Kloster Museum: A Window into Denmark's Monastic Past

Established in 1172, Øm Abbey was home to Cistercian monks who sought a life of prayer and labor. The abbey flourished for centuries, becoming one of Denmark's wealthiest religious institutions by the late 15th century. However, the Reformation in 1536 led to its closure, and by 1561, the buildings were dismantled under royal decree.
