    From San Salvador, take a bus from Terminal de Occidente to Santa Ana (approximately $1.50, 2-2.5 hours). From Santa Ana, transfer to a local bus or taxi to Chalchuapa (bus fare around $0.50-$1). The local bus will drop you off close to C. Tazumal. From Lake Coatepeque, take a bus to Santa Ana, then transfer to a bus to Chalchuapa. Ask to be dropped off near C. Tazumal and walk about 10 minutes to the park entrance (total cost $1.50-$2).

    From San Salvador, take the CA-1 highway towards Santa Ana (approximately 60 km). Take the exit towards Chalchuapa and drive 5 km on the local road until you reach C. Tazumal. Parking is available on the street near the entrance. Street parking is free.

Parque Arqueológico Tazumal, located in Chalchuapa, El Salvador, is a significant archaeological site showcasing the Mayan civilization's rich cultural heritage. The site was inhabited from 100 to 1200 AD and features impressive structures, including pyramids and ceremonial platforms. The centerpiece of the park is the iconic Tazumal pyramid, demonstrating the architectural prowess of the ancient Maya. The archaeologist Stanley Boggs led excavation and restoration projects in the 1940s. Che Guevara visited Tazumal in 1954; a sculpture of him stands near the entrance.
