Getting There

  • Public Bus

    From the center of Santa Ana, head to the main bus terminal located at Parque Libertad. Look for buses heading towards Cerro Verde. The fare is usually very affordable. Once you board, inform the driver that you are going to the Santa Ana Volcano Trailhead. The bus will take you along the 'Carr al cerro verde' road. After approximately 30-40 minutes, the bus will stop near the entrance to the trailhead. Be sure to ask the driver to let you know when to get off.

  • Shared Taxi (Colectivo)

    From Parque Libertad, you can catch a shared taxi (colectivo) that goes to the Cerro Verde area. These taxis usually wait until they are full before departing, so you might have to wait a bit. Once you get in, let the driver know you want to go to the Santa Ana Volcano Trailhead. The journey will take around 20-30 minutes. The drop-off point will be close to the trail entrance.

From there, take the first exit onto Calle 9 de Febrero. Follow this road until you reach the intersection with Carr al cerro verde. Turn left onto Carr al cerro verde, and walk about 5 kilometers until you reach the Santa Ana Volcano Trailhead. Be prepared for a long walk and bring plenty of water and sun protection.
