Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from the city of Assab, take the road heading north towards the town of Tessenei. From Tessenei, continue on the main road towards the border with Ethiopia. Once you reach the border, you will need to go through customs and immigration. After crossing into Ethiopia, continue driving towards Dalol, which is the closest town to the Danakil Desert. The final destination is located at the coordinates 14.2418718 latitude and 40.2902478 longitude. Make sure to carry sufficient water and supplies, as the area is extremely arid.

  For those using public transportation, start your journey at the bus station in Assab. Take a bus heading towards Tessenei.
