The primary way to reach Nólsoy is by ferry (route 90) from Tórshavn. The ferry terminal is located in Tórshavn harbor. The ferry crossing takes approximately 30 minutes. The cost for a one-way adult ticket is approximately 40 DKK. Check the current schedule on ssl.fo. It is not possible to pre-book tickets. Arrive early, especially with a car. Parking is available near the ferry terminal in Tórshavn.

Once on Nólsoy, the island is best explored on foot. From the ferry terminal in Nólsoy village, you can easily walk to local attractions, hiking trails, and viewpoints. The hike to the lighthouse is a popular option, but allow ample time. There is also an unpaved road leading to the northern end of the island.
