Discover more about Juveninkoski Rapids

The Juvéninkoski Rapids, situated in the village of Partala, Jämsä, showcase nature's power as water surges over a rocky cliff, creating a breathtaking waterfall. Part of the Nytkymenjoki River, which features nine rapids in total, Juvéninkoski stands out as the most impressive. Its nearly 7-meter drop is a rare sight in Finland, making it the highest and steepest free-falling waterfall in Central Finland. Historically, the Nytkymenjoki River played a vital role in the village of Partala, powering factories and sawmills since the 18th century. The rapids were also used for log floating. The waterfall is named after Heikki Juvén, a local ski factory owner born in 1907, whose factory even produced skis for the Finnish Defence Forces. Today, visitors can appreciate the falls from an observation platform built and maintained by the Partala Village Association. The platform features millstones, a nod to the area's industrial past. A trail leads downriver, offering different perspectives of the falls, though it's not maintained during winter. In the summer, a challenging path provides access to the river downstream. The best time to visit is during the spring flood when the water flow is at its peak.
