Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park, just north of Tallahassee, preserves a significant chapter of Florida's pre-Columbian history. Here, six earthen temple mounds stand as silent witnesses to the Fort Walton culture, a southern expression of the Mississippian culture that thrived between 1000 and 1500 AD. Visitors can explore two of these mounds, ascend to their summits for panoramic views, and wander along trails that wind through the area's natural beauty. The park offers a glimpse into the lives of the Native Americans who once called this place home, their sophisticated society, and their connection to the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex. It's a place for reflection, exploration, and appreciation of Florida's rich and often overlooked past, offering a peaceful escape into nature combined with a journey through time. The park also features an interpretive trail that passes remnants of Florida's Territorial Period and early statehood when the land was part of a large estate owned by Colonel Robert Butler.

Driving
From downtown Tallahassee, head north on US-27 N/Monroe St. Continue for approximately 1.7 miles, then turn right onto Crowder Rd. Drive for 1 mile, and turn right onto Indian Mounds Rd. The park entrance is at the end of this road. Parking is available at the park. The entrance fee is $3 per vehicle, payable via the honor box (correct change required).

From the C.K. Steele Plaza in downtown Tallahassee, take StarMetro bus route 7 towards Lake Jackson. Get off at the N Monroe Street and Talpeco Road stop. From there, it's approximately a 30-minute walk (1.5 miles) to the park entrance via N Monroe St and Indian Mounds Rd. A single ride on StarMetro costs $1.25.
