French Searchlight Position: A Coastal Defense Relic

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are near the Promenade des Anglais, walk east towards Vieux Nice (Old Town). Upon reaching Place Massena, head northeast via Rue de l'Opéra until you reach the 'Opéra-Vieille Ville' tram stop. Take tram line 1 towards 'Hôpital Pasteur' and get off at the 'Gare Riquier' stop. Walk south on Avenue de la République, then turn right onto Boulevard Princesse Grâce de Monaco. Continue until you reach number 2, where the French searchlight position is located.

• Public Transport

  From Nice Ville train station, take tram line 1 towards 'Hôpital Pasteur'. Get off at the 'Gare Riquier' stop. Walk south on Avenue de la République, then turn right onto Boulevard Princesse Grâce de Monaco. Continue straight until you reach your destination at number 2, the French searchlight position. A single tram ticket costs €1.70 and is valid for 74 minutes, allowing transfers. Tickets can be purchased at station kiosks or via the Lignes d'Azur Tickets app.

• Driving

  From Mont Boron, head southwest on Rue des Écoles until the intersection with Boulevard de la Madeleine. Turn left onto Boulevard de la Madeleine. At the fork, take the right onto Boulevard Princesse Grâce de Monaco. Continue for approximately 5 minutes; the French searchlight position will be on the right at number 2. Parking can be found along the street, with rates around €1.30 for 1 hour and €2.60 for 2 hours. Parking is free on Sundays and public holidays.
