Discover more about Côte de granit rose

The Côte de Granit Rose, or Pink Granite Coast, is a natural wonder in Côtes-d'Armor, Brittany, stretching from Plestin-les-Grèves to Louannec. This remarkable coastline owes its distinctive rosy hue to the minerals hematite and alkali feldspar within the granite, formed some 300 million years ago. Only two other places worldwide share this geological feature: Corsica and China. Over countless years, wind and waves have sculpted the pink granite into fantastic formations, some reaching up to 20 meters high, resembling a natural art installation. The most captivating section lies between Perros-Guirec and Trégastel, best explored via the Sentier des Douaniers (GR34), a former coastguard path. This trail meanders through a landscape of precariously balanced rocks, hidden coves, and sandy beaches. Ploumanac'h, a village voted "France's Favorite Village" in 2015, serves as an ideal base to discover the coast. Here, you'll find the iconic Mean Ruz lighthouse, built entirely from pink granite. Other notable sights include the Oratory of Saint-Guirec, a 14th-century chapel housing a saint's sculpture, and the Sept-Îles archipelago, a haven for seabirds. The Côte de Granit Rose offers a variety of activities, from hiking and birdwatching to swimming and sailing. The climate is oceanic, with warm summers and dramatic winter storms, adding to the coast's mystique.
