Discover more about Château de Langeais

The Château de Langeais, located in the Loire Valley, presents a unique transition between two architectural styles. Originally founded in 992, it was rebuilt in 1465 by King Louis XI. From the town square, the château's imposing medieval facade features a drawbridge, towers, and machicolations. In contrast, the garden-facing side displays a more open Renaissance style with symmetrical lines. Inside, each room is filled with sculpted furnishings, rich tapestries, and artwork that evoke the lives of feudal lords. A highlight is the re-enactment of the secret wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany, a pivotal event that united Brittany with France. The park contains the ruins of a 10th-century keep built by Foulques Nerra, offering panoramic views of the Loire River and the Langeais Bridge. The château is owned by the Institut de France and hosts activities for all ages throughout the year. Visitors can explore the gardens, admire the tree cabin with views over the Loire, and enjoy children's games. Audio guides are available to enhance the experience.
