Discover more about Confluence de la Loire et du Cher

The Confluence de la Loire et du Cher is a captivating natural landmark situated in Villandry, France, where the Loire River's tranquil waters merge with the Cher River's currents, creating a stunning blend of landscapes. This picturesque site offers a serene escape surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flora. Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks along the riverbanks, immersing themselves in the refreshing air and soothing sounds of nature. The area is especially beautiful in spring when wildflowers bloom, painting the landscape in vibrant colors, providing countless opportunities for photography enthusiasts. Historically, the confluence point was not always fixed. Until the 18th century, the meeting point of the two rivers shifted, sometimes occurring several kilometers upstream or downstream. In an effort to gain cultivable land and improve navigation, the confluence was fixed by canalizing the Cher. This created an overflow branch to the south and ensured boats could easily find the Cher's mouth. Located near the renowned Château de Villandry, visitors can easily combine a trip to the confluence with a tour of the chateau's exquisite gardens. The confluence is known locally as "bec du cher" or "bec des deux eaux" (the beak of the Cher, or beak of the two waters). Nearby attractions include the Plage du Bout du Monde (Beach at the End of the World) and the Grange aux Moines, a 13th-century building that once stored goods for the Abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours.
