Car
If you're driving, start by heading to the town of Aragnouet, which is the closest town to Pic Long. From the center of Aragnouet, take D618 towards the east. Continue on D618 for about 3 km, following signs to the Col de Peyresourde. Once you reach the Col de Peyresourde, you will see signs for the trailhead to Pic Long. Note that parking is available near the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly during peak tourist seasons. Be prepared for a possible parking fee, which can vary by season.
Public Transportation
To reach Pic Long via public transport, take a train to the nearest major station, which is at Luchon. From Luchon, you can catch a local bus (Ligne 901) towards Aragnouet. The bus will drop you off at the town center. From there, you can either walk or take a taxi to the trailhead for Pic Long. It’s advisable to check the bus schedule in advance as the frequency may vary, especially outside the summer season. The bus fare is typically around €2-€5.
Hiking
Once you reach the trailhead, prepare for a hike to Pic Long. The hike is approximately 12 km one way, and it can take about 4-6 hours depending on your fitness level. The trail is well-marked but can be steep in places. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear, carry enough water, and check the weather conditions before you set out. There are no entry fees for the hiking trails.
