Château Musée Vodou: A Journey into West African Vodou Culture

The Château Musée Vodou, located in Strasbourg, France, provides an unparalleled journey into the rich and spiritual world of Vodou culture. This unique museum is housed within a historic water tower built in 1878. The building itself, a striking example of 19th-century architecture, adds to the museum's distinctive atmosphere. The museum's collection, the largest private collection of West African Vodou objects in the world, was assembled by Marc and Marie-Luce Arbogast. The collection includes over 1,000 items originating from Ghana, Benin, Togo, and Nigeria. Only a portion of the collection, around 220 objects, is displayed at a time. These objects were used in religious practices such as ancestor worship, medicine, divination, and other ceremonies.
