This stunning example of Gothic architecture took approximately 400 years to build, with construction starting in 1176 and largely completed in 1439. For over two centuries, from 1647 to 1874, it stood as the world's tallest building. Visitors can ascend the 330 steps to the platform, located 66 meters above ground, for breathtaking panoramic views of Strasbourg, the Vosges Mountains, and even the Black Forest in Germany on a clear day. Along the way, you'll pass the Maison des Gardiens (Guard House), home to two 15th-century winches and a clock mechanism designed by Jean-Baptiste Schwilgué. Films, 3D animations, and information panels detail the history of the site. The climb is reserved for those in good physical condition, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Note that there is no elevator access. The entrance fee contributes to the preservation and restoration of the cathedral. Inside the cathedral, visitors can admire the famous astronomical clock and attend services.
