Air Travel
The Maupiti Airport (code: MAU) is located on Motu Tuanai. Upon arrival, a boat shuttle will transport you to your accommodation on the main island or another motu. This service is typically arranged by your pension. The boat trip to Vaiea village takes about 30 minutes. This shuttle is usually included in the price of your accommodation. Confirm with your accommodation beforehand.
Ferry
The Maupiti Express ferry connects Maupiti with Bora Bora. The ferry docks at the main wharf in Vaiea. From Bora Bora, the ferry typically takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. A one-way ticket costs around 3,000 XPF (approximately $27 USD). Be aware that the Onoiau Pass, the only navigable entry into the lagoon, can be treacherous in rough weather, potentially delaying ferry services.
Local Transportation
There is no public transportation on Maupiti. The most common ways to get around are walking or renting a bicycle. Many pensions offer bicycle rentals for around 1,000 XPF (approximately $9 USD) per day. The island's main road is flat, making it easy to cycle around. Taxis are rare, but your accommodation can arrange for transport if needed.
