The National Museum of Arts, Rites and Traditions of Gabon (MNARTG) stands as the primary museum in Gabon, housing an impressive collection of around 2,500 works and objects of traditional Gabonese art. Inaugurated in February 2019, the museum is located in the heart of Libreville at 51 Avenue Augustin Boumah, opposite the Chamber of Commerce. The museum's collection includes a wide array of ethnographic objects collected from 1954 onwards, divided into 16 collections, including basketry, kitchen utensils, metallurgy, musical instruments, statuettes, Mbigou stones, archeology, reliquaries, masks, canes, hunting equipment, dowry currency, pottery, fishing gear, ornaments and miscellaneous items. The museum also holds a documentary collection of 2,627 books and an audio-visual collection of 1,114 recordings in four aesthetic fields: tales, dances, songs and instruments. Visitors can explore exhibits that narrate the rituals, ceremonies, and daily lives of Gabonese people throughout history. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions highlighting contemporary art and cultural dialogues, bridging the historical and modern aspects of Gabonese culture. The museum's architecture blends modern design with traditional Gabonese elements, creating an inviting atmosphere.
