Travel Guide to Archaelogical Site of Pella

Getting There

• Public Bus

  From Thessaloniki, head to the KTEL Macedonia Bus Station located at 100, 26th October Street. You can take a taxi or tram to get there. Once at the bus station, purchase a ticket to Pella. Buses to Pella run regularly, and the journey takes about 1 hour. The bus will drop you off at the center of Pella, from where you can walk to the Archaeological Site, located approximately 2 kilometers away. Follow the signs towards the archaeological site, or ask locals for directions.

• Train and Bus Combination

  Begin your journey at the Thessaloniki Train Station, located at 1, Aristotelous Square. Take a train to the nearby town of Edessa. Once you arrive at Edessa, head to the local KTEL bus station, which is about a 10-minute walk from the train station. Purchase a ticket to Pella, and board the bus, which takes about 30 minutes. When you arrive in Pella, the archaeological site is about a 2-kilometer walk from the bus stop. Look for signs or ask locals for directions to the site.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi or use a rideshare app from Thessaloniki to Pella. This option can be more expensive but will take you directly to the archaeological site. The ride typically takes around 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will take you to the Archaeological Site of Pella.

• Walking Tour (if you're adventurous)

  For the adventurous, consider walking from Thessaloniki to Pella, though it's quite a long trek (approximately 40 kilometers). Start from the White Tower in the city center and head towards the north, following signs towards Pella. This would take a full day, so plan accordingly, and ensure you have ample water and food supplies. Note that this option is not suitable for everyone and is only recommended for experienced hikers.
