Asan Bay Overlook: A Place of Remembrance
Reflect on Guam's history at Asan Bay Overlook, a serene memorial with panoramic ocean views and tributes to WWII heroes.
Asan Bay Overlook, completed in 1994, stands as a solemn memorial commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Guam. Perched atop a ridgeline, the overlook provides a serene space for reflection on the events of World War II and the sacrifices made during the Battle of Guam. The overlook offers stunning panoramic views of the seaside villages of Asan and Piti, as well as the beaches where U.S. forces landed. Landscaped walkways guide visitors through the site, leading to a viewing platform adorned with historical photos and bronze sculptures depicting scenes from the Japanese occupation and the battle. These sculptures, created by artist Eugene Daub, add a powerful visual element to the memorial. The Memorial Wall of Names is a central feature, bearing the names of 1,880 U.S. servicemen who died on Guam, along with 1,170 Guamanians who perished and 14,721 who suffered atrocities during the war. The overlook serves as a reminder of the island's history and the resilience of its people. Visitors can explore the grounds, taking in the views and reflecting on the historical significance of the site. The park is open 24 hours a day and offers free parking, making it easily accessible. While there are no restrooms on site, the overlook provides a peaceful and reverent space for remembrance and contemplation.
