3.8

Talo'fo'fo' Falls is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the village of Inalåhan, Guam. The falls are a series of scenic cascades on the Ugum River, offering a serene and picturesque environment for tourists and nature enthusiasts. The name Talo'fo'fo' may come from the Chamorro phrase “entalo' i fe'fo',” meaning 'between the cliffs,' or from 'fo'fo', meaning a bubbling spring. The area is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place steeped in history. The original inhabitants lived in settlements along the Talo'fo'fo' and Ugum rivers, and the Talo'fo'fo' Caves show evidence of ancient Chamorro life. During World War II, the area saw the landing of Japanese forces and later, the sinking of the Aratama Maru in Talo'fo'fo' Bay. Perhaps most notably, it is near where Sergeant Shoichi Yokoi, a Japanese soldier who hid in the jungles for 28 years after WWII, was discovered. Today, visitors can explore the falls and the surrounding Talofofo Falls Resort Park. The park offers a cable car ride down to the falls, providing stunning aerial views. Several bridges allow visitors to enjoy the water without getting wet. Within the park, you can also find a Guam historical museum, a replica of Yokoi's cave, an observation tower, and other attractions.
