Walking
Antigua is a very walkable city with a grid layout, making it easy to explore on foot. Most major attractions, restaurants, and hotels are located within the central area. From Parque Central, you can easily walk to landmarks such as the Santa Catalina Arch, the Antigua Guatemala Cathedral, and various colonial ruins.
Public Transport
While Antigua itself is compact, 'chicken buses' connect it to nearby towns and Guatemala City. These colorful buses are an affordable option for adventurous travelers. To reach Antigua from Guatemala City, you can take a bus from the station, with tickets costing approximately $27-$45. The journey takes around 2-3 hours.
Taxi
Taxis and tuk-tuks are readily available for getting around Antigua. Tuk-tuks are ideal for short trips within the city, while taxis can be used for longer distances. Negotiate the fare before hopping in. Taxis charge a base fare of 27.5 GTQ, plus 5 GTQ per kilometer. A 5km ride would cost about 52.5 GTQ.
Driving
Driving in Antigua can be challenging due to the cobblestone streets and narrow roads. Parking is available on the streets for 10 GTQ a day, with permits available from municipal transit agents. Secure parking lots are also available for around 10 GTQ per hour. Be aware of parking restrictions, such as red, white, and blue curbs.
