Getting There

  • Bus

    From the center of Tatabanya, walk to the main bus station. There, you can catch a direct bus to Budapest. Look for buses heading towards the 'Budapest' route. The journey will take approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Budapest bus station, you can take the Metro Line 3 (the blue line) from 'Kőbánya-Kispest' towards 'Újpest-Központ'. Get off at 'Nyugati pályaudvar' station. From there, follow signs to the tram station and take tram number 4 or 6 towards 'Széll Kálmán tér'. Get off at 'Margit híd, budai hídfő' stop, and you will be a short walk away from Margaret Island.

    Head to the Tatabanya train station and purchase a ticket to Budapest. Trains to Budapest run frequently and take about 1 hour. Arrive at 'Budapest Nyugati' train station. From Nyugati, exit the station and walk to the tram stop outside. Take tram number 4 or 6 towards 'Széll Kálmán tér'. Get off at 'Margit híd, budai hídfő' stop. Margaret Island is just a brief walk from there.

    If you enjoy cycling, you can rent a bicycle in Tatabanya. Start your journey by heading towards the 'Tatabanya' main road and follow the bike path towards Budapest. The ride will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Once you reach Budapest, follow signs to the Danube River. Cross the Margaret Bridge, and you will find the entrance to Margaret Island right after the bridge.
