Walking
From the center of Olafsvik, head east on Aðalgata street towards the main road. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Road 574. Turn left onto Road 574 and continue walking for about 7.5 kilometers. You will pass by scenic landscapes, and you can enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. Vatnshellir Cave will be on your right along Road 574, look for the entrance signage indicating the cave.
Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, start from the center of Olafsvik and proceed east on Aðalgata street. Continue until you hit the intersection with Road 574, then turn left onto Road 574. Cycle along this road for approximately 7.5 kilometers. The route is relatively flat and offers beautiful views. Vatnshellir Cave is located on the right side of the road, marked by signage indicating its entrance.
Public Transport
While there are limited public transport options directly from Olafsvik to Vatnshellir Cave, you can check with local tourism offices for any shuttle services that operate to Snæfellsjökull National Park. If available, take the shuttle from the center of Olafsvik that heads towards the park. Once you arrive at Snæfellsjökull National Park, look for signs directing you to Vatnshellir Cave, which is approximately a short walk from the drop-off point.
