Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. From Reykjavik, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Snæfellsnes. After approximately 90 km, take the exit for Route 54 towards Ólafsvík. Continue on Route 54 for about 38 km until you reach the town of Hellnar. From Hellnar, turn onto Route 574 and drive for about 10 km. Gerduberg will be on your left. Look for the distinctive basalt columns along the road. Parking is available near the site.

    To reach Gerduberg using public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavik to Snæfellsnes. The bus company Sterna offers routes to Snæfellsnes. You will need to check the latest schedule as it may vary. Get off at Hellnar. From Hellnar, you will need to walk approximately 10 km along Route 574 to reach Gerduberg. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather conditions. There may be taxi services available in Hellnar if you prefer not to walk.
