The lake, once part of the Volkening farm, was created in the late 1960s when the Volkening family ceased efforts to drain the low-lying area of their property. In 1980, the Schaumburg Park District received funding to develop the lake, and the project was completed in 1985.Today, Volkening Lake is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy a scenic 0.7-mile walking and running trail that encircles the lake. Fishing is a popular activity, and the lake is known as a prime fishing spot in Schaumburg. Boating is also available, with canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals offered during the summer months. The park also features an outdoor fitness area with equipment for cardio and strength training.Volkening Lake is also a great place for families. A playground is available for children, and picnic areas provide space for gatherings. The park also hosts seasonal events and community activities throughout the year. Volkening Lake is located at 900 W Schaumburg Rd, adjacent to the Schaumburg Police Station and Fire Department. From these landmarks, the lake is easily accessible via a short walk along the paved pathway leading directly to the lake's perimeter. The walking path around the lake is approximately 0.7 miles.
Public Transport
The Village of Schaumburg offers various transportation options, including Pace Bus Service and Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART). DART is a demand-driven bus service that operates within Schaumburg. From various points in Schaumburg, use Pace Bus Service or DART to reach the vicinity of Schaumburg Road and Plum Grove Road. From there, walk west on Schaumburg Road to Volkening Lake, which is located next to the police station. A regular DART cash fare is $4.00, with reduced fares available for seniors and people with disabilities.
Driving
Volkening Lake is located at 900 W Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60194. From I-90, exit onto Roselle Road and head north. Turn east onto Schaumburg Road. The lake will be on your left, next to the Schaumburg Police Station and Fire Department. Parking is available in the lots near the police and fire stations. Parking is free.
