Getting There

• Walking

  Starting from the center of Puducherry, make your way to the Auroville Bus Stop. You can ask locals for directions, as it is a well-known location. Once you reach the Auroville Bus Stop, look for buses or shared auto-rickshaws heading towards Auroville. Ensure you board a vehicle that has 'Auroville' clearly marked. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Upon reaching Auroville, disembark at the main entrance and follow the signs towards Matrimandir. The walk to Matrimandir Lake First Section is about 15 minutes from the bus stop. Follow the path lined with trees until you reach the rock garden area where Matrimandir is located.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Puducherry. Head towards the Auroville road, which is well-marked. The distance from Puducherry to Auroville is approximately 12 km. As you cycle, enjoy the scenery and keep an eye out for signs indicating the way to Auroville. Upon reaching Auroville, park your bicycle at the designated area and walk towards Matrimandir Lake First Section, which is a 15-minute walk from the bicycle parking area. Follow the paths and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

• Auto-Rickshaw

  From the main areas in Puducherry, you can hire an auto-rickshaw to take you directly to Matrimandir. Tell the driver you want to go to 'Matrimandir' in Auroville. The ride will take around 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the entrance of Auroville, the driver may drop you off at the main gate. From there, you can walk approximately 15 minutes following the signs to Matrimandir Lake First Section. It's a pleasant walk through the lush environment of Auroville.
