Getting There

• Car

  From anywhere in the Hoosier National Forest, head to State Road 64. If you're near the northern part of the forest, you can take IN-135 South to reach State Road 64. If you're coming from the southern areas, find your way to State Road 64. Once on State Road 64, head east towards Marengo. The Marengo Cave U.S. National Landmark will be located at 400 East State Rd 64, Marengo, IN 47140, which is about a 20-minute drive from the center of the forest. Look for the entrance on the right side of the road. There is a parking area available for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this rural area. You can check if any local bus services operate in the region. However, it is recommended to use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to reach Marengo Cave from the nearest bus stop, which may be in a nearby town. Keep in mind that this can incur additional costs, and availability may vary. The approximate distance from the nearest bus stop to the cave is about 10 miles, so ridesharing is typically the most efficient way to travel.

• Biking

  For avid cyclists, you can bike from various points in the Hoosier National Forest, especially if you're near State Road 64. Ensure you have a suitable bike route planned, as some sections may not have dedicated bike lanes. The ride can be scenic but can also be challenging due to the rural roads, so be prepared for some traffic. It is approximately a 5-mile ride to the cave, and once you arrive, there are bike racks available for securing your bicycle.
