Walking
From the Iowa State Capitol, walk west on E Locust Street for approximately two blocks. The State Historical Building will be on your left. The walk is generally flat and takes about 5-10 minutes.

Public Transport
Several DART (Des Moines Area Regional Transit) bus routes serve the State Historical Building. Routes 1 and 4 stop near the Iowa State Capitol Complex. From DART Central Station, transfer to a route that serves E Locust Street. Check the DART website or app for schedules and real-time updates. A single ride fare is $1.75.

Driving
From I-235, take the E 6th Street exit and head south. Turn left onto E Locust Street. The State Historical Building will be on your right. Free parking is available in the parking garage at 650 Grand Avenue, at the northwest corner of East Grand and Pennsylvania avenues. Metered street parking is also available, costing $1.25/hour Monday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Use the ParkDSM ParkMobile app to pay for metered parking.
