Taq Al-Zafarani: A Historical Gem in Karbala

Getting There

• Walking

  Assuming you're in the center of Karbala, start at the Imam Hussein Shrine. Walk northwest along Al-Hashimi Street (شارع الهاشمي) for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Al-Hurr Street (شارع الحر). Turn left onto Al-Hurr Street and continue walking for another 700 meters. You will pass by several local shops and cafes. Keep an eye out for the local landmarks to ensure you are on the right path. When you reach the intersection with Al-Mukhtar Street (شارع المختار), turn right. Continue straight for approximately 300 meters until you see Taq Al-Zafarani on your left, near the coordinates J29J+3M2.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from a local shop near the Imam Hussein Shrine. Start your route the same way as the walking instructions: head northwest on Al-Hashimi Street. After reaching the intersection with Al-Hurr Street, turn left and cycle for another 700 meters. Keep your speed moderate as you will encounter some pedestrians. At the intersection with Al-Mukhtar Street, turn right, and continue for about 300 meters. Taq Al-Zafarani will be on your left. Make sure to wear a helmet and adhere to traffic rules.

  For those interested in public transport, walk to the nearest bus stop from the Imam Hussein Shrine. Take a local bus heading towards Al-Hurr Street. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will drop you off at the Al-Hurr Street intersection. From there, walk straight along Al-Hurr Street for about 700 meters until you reach the intersection with Al-Mukhtar Street. Turn right and walk for an additional 300 meters. Taq Al-Zafarani will be on your left. Be prepared for potential crowds and check the bus schedule.
