The museum was established on November 14, 2015, coinciding with Sulaymaniyah Foundation Day. It is owned by the Revival of Kurd's Heritage Organisation and is administratively affiliated with the Sulaymaniyah Directorate of Antiquities and the Sulaymaniyah Museum. The museum's collection includes 1718 registered items, with approximately 200 on display, encompassing a variety of objects like clothes, jewelry, books, manuscripts, household furniture, firearms, and rugs, dating back 50 to 400 years. A unique aspect of the museum is its 'Jewish Collection,' featuring items owned by Jewish people who once lived in Sulaymaniyah, including rare Torahs. The museum is located in the Farah Hotel, the oldest hotel in Sulaymaniyah, which opened in the early 1920s.
