From the heart of Waterford City, start at the Main Street (also known as O'Connell Street). Head east towards the junction with John Street. Continue straight onto John Street and walk until you reach the intersection with the Quay. Turn right onto the Quay and follow it along the River Suir until you reach the pedestrian bridge. Cross the bridge to the other side of the river. Once you are on the other side, follow the road along the riverbank, which will eventually lead you to Blackfriars Abbey (ruin). The abbey is situated in a small park area and is clearly marked.

Take Bus Éireann route 40 or 360 from Waterford City Bus Station. Get off at the stop on the Quay, which is closest to the river. From there, walk towards the river and cross over the pedestrian bridge. After crossing, follow the riverbank path until you reach Blackfriars Abbey (ruin).
