Getting There

• Car

  To reach the Judaean Desert by car, start from Jerusalem. Take Highway 1 (Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway) towards the west, and then merge onto Highway 40 heading south. Continue on Highway 40 until you reach the junction with Highway 90. Turn left onto Highway 90, which will lead you into the heart of the Judaean Desert. You can stop at various points of interest along the way, such as the Dead Sea or Masada, before exploring the desert itself. Be prepared for parking fees at certain sites.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Jerusalem to the Ein Gedi or Masada area. Buses run regularly from the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem. Look for the Egged bus lines 486 or 421, which will take you directly to the Dead Sea area. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary throughout the week. Once you arrive at Ein Gedi or Masada, you can explore the surrounding areas of the Judaean Desert on foot or via local tours.

• Hiking/Walking

  Once you are in the Judaean Desert area, there are numerous trails and paths for hiking. If you arrive by car or bus, consider visiting popular hiking spots such as the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve or the trails around Masada. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and sufficient water. Some trails may require a small entrance fee, so be prepared for that cost.
