Discover more about Parco Regionale della Maremma

The Parco Regionale della Maremma, also known as Uccellina Park, is a captivating natural oasis in southern Tuscany, extending along 25 kilometers of coastline between Principina a Mare and Talamone. Established in 1975, the park encompasses a diverse landscape of rolling hills, sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, marshlands, pine forests, cultivated fields, and pastures. The park's dominant feature is the Uccellina Mountain Range, a green coastal ridge dotted with the romantic ruins of old watchtowers and a Cistercian abbey. The highest point is Poggio Lecci, reaching 417 meters. The park is also home to the Ombrone River Delta, coastal pine forests, and the Trappola Marshes, where Maremmana cattle roam freely. The Maremma region has a rich history, with evidence of human presence dating back 50,000 years. The Etruscans left their mark, and the area was later shaped by the Romans and the Medici family. The park's watchtowers and the Abbey of San Rabano stand as testaments to its medieval past. Visitors can explore the park through a network of trails, suitable for hiking and Nordic walking. Other activities include biking, horseback riding, carriage rides, and canoeing. The park offers a chance to encounter wild animals such as wild boars, foxes, fallow deer, and the iconic Maremma cattle. Birdwatchers will find a paradise in the park's wetlands, home to herons, hawks, and various wading birds. The park's diverse ecosystems support a rich variety of Mediterranean vegetation, including holm oak, strawberry trees, myrtle, and mastic. The coastline features beautiful sandy beaches, some of which are embellished by sand dunes.
