Located on Piazza del Carmine, the Chiesa del Carmine Maggiore is a prominent Roman Catholic church in Palermo, Sicily. The church's history dates back to the 13th century when monks from the Carmelite order arrived in Palermo. The original church was rebuilt between 1627 and 1693, showcasing a stunning Baroque design by architect Mariano Smiriglio.The interior features a Latin cross layout with a central nave and two aisles, separated by twelve impressive columns made of Billiemi stone. The ceiling is adorned with frescoes by Giovanni Patricolo, and niches on the dome's pilasters display statues by Vincenzo Messina.
