Sapporo Tour in the Port City of Otaru and Local beer brewery

Sapporo Tour of Otaru

On Sept 4, 2026 my wife and I booked the “Sapporo Tour In the Port City of Otaru and Beer Brewery Museum” with Viator. We were the only ones on the tour. Our guide was Scott who was an American citizen. Scott has been living in Japan since he married his Japanese wife many years ago. As such, he was fluent in both English and Japanese. We had seen many positive reviews about Scott on the Viator site and can confirm that they were truly justified. Although the trip was supposed to be about 8 hours, in our case it lasted much longer since we had extended conversations on many topics of mutual interest with Scott (e.g., historical and cultural aspects of Japan). He was an amazingly patient and knowledgeable guide— taking us to places that we would have never discovered on our own. He took us to the most popular shopping places (Kataichi glass factories, Otaru music box museum and shop) and to some that were his local favorites (a delicious pastry shop)— and he never rushed us. For lunch, he brought us to an area of very small locally owned restaurants —most of which had only a handful of seats with the owner cooking the food right in front of us. We could go on but suffice it to say that this was the best tour we had ever booked and highly recommend it— particularly with Scott as the tour leader.

Shakotan and Otaru Private Day Tour from Sapporo

Majestic nature.

The views are truly breathtaking. Otaru is nice but I was lucky enough to have gone there during a festival and that was magical. The car was luxurious, clean and the driver, Kazu was perfect, good driving, discreet and pleasant.
