Experience Shimba Hills National Reserve

Getting There

  • Matatu (Shared Minibus)

From any location in Diani Beach, walk to the main road (Diani Beach Road). Look for a matatu heading to Kwale or Lunga Lunga. Board the matatu, which will cost you a small fee (typically around 100 KES). The ride to the Kwale junction will take about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you reach the Kwale junction, ask the driver to drop you off at the Shimba Hills turn-off.

  • Boda Boda (Motorbike Taxi)

After getting off at the Kwale junction, you can hire a boda boda to take you directly to the Shimba Hills National Reserve. Negotiate the fare before you start the journey; it should be around 500-1000 KES depending on your negotiation skills and the distance. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the reserve.

  • Walking (if close enough)

If you find yourself relatively close to the Shimba Hills entrance after the matatu drop-off, you can opt to walk. Head towards Kasemeni Sinango Road, which will lead you directly to the entrance of Shimba Hills National Reserve. Be cautious while walking, as the roads might not be pedestrian-friendly.
