Discover more about Pedestrian bridge across Gauja River

Spanning the Gauja River in Sigulda, Latvia, the Pedestrian Bridge is more than just a crossing; it's a destination offering panoramic views and a connection to local history and natural beauty. Constructed in 1979, the bridge was designed to create a circular route for visitors exploring the Gauja River's ancient valley. Before the bridge, reaching the Devil's Cave (Velnala) cliffs involved a precarious path along the steep slope, which caused the sandstone to crumble. To preserve the cave and offer better views, the bridge was built to provide access to the opposite bank, where a recreation area was established. Today, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Devil's Cave cliffs and the Gauja River from this vantage point. The bridge project was supported by Jānis Mengots, and designed by engineer J. Zavickis and architect A. Ādmine. Since its opening, the bridge has allowed pedestrians and cyclists to easily cross the Gauja River, linking both banks and enhancing access to the surrounding natural attractions.
