Discover more about Pelču pils muiža

Pelči Pils Muiža, situated in the picturesque Pelči parish of Kuldīga Municipality, offers a glimpse into Latvia's noble past. Constructed between 1903 and 1904, the manor house was designed by architect Wilhelm Neumann, blending Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Nouveau elements. Commissioned by Prince Michael von Lieven, the castle reflects a clear, logical design reminiscent of Courland classicism, incorporating a symmetrical layout with three projections. The castle's architecture features a French Renaissance-inspired roof and a floor plan that aligns with Baroque and Classicist traditions. The facade includes Gothic capitals on the porch columns, with decorative elements drawn from German Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles. The castle was constructed using bricks from the Kaltiņi brickyard, covered with smooth, red-orange bricks imported from Germany. Inside, the library retains its original built-in bookcases, gallery, and spiral staircase. The surrounding 10.2-hectare park, designed in 1902 by Riga city garden director G. Kūfalts, follows the principles of a landscape park and features exotic trees and shrubs. Today, Pelči Pils Muiža is a State-protected cultural monument and houses the Pelči parish library, a primary school, and social services.
